the songs they always sing
of love and happiness
of heartbeats and breathlessness
never understood what they meant
never knew how they captured
the exact feelings into words
but there was yesterday
and the day before then
and the day before that
sitting here now
and listening to those songs
the lyrics are a truth in my life
